Discover quick, practical energy-saving tips from SEEL experts. These short videos show easy ways to improve comfort and reduce energy use at home.

Smart Thermostat Setbacks
Program your thermostat to automatically lower the temperature at night and when you're away from home. This reduces the energy needed to heat and cool when you aren't there or asleep — saving money without sacrificing comfort.
Rope Caulk
(Think “silly putty” for drafts)
Rope caulk is a soft, moldable material — think silly putty — that fills small gaps around windows to block drafts. It’s easy to press into place and remove later, making it a quick, temporary way to improve insulation.
Window
Insulation Kit
A clear plastic window insulation kit adds an extra barrier to keep cold air out. Once sealed with a hair dryer, it reduces heat loss and helps your home feel warmer without turning up the thermostat.
Furnace Filter Replacement
A dirty furnace filter makes your system work harder, using more energy and reducing air quality. Replace filters regularly to keep your furnace running efficiently.
Tip: Follow the arrow on the filter to match the direction of airflow. Filter size is listed as height × depth × width.
Weather Stripping
Weather stripping seals gaps around doors and windows, preventing conditioned air from escaping. It’s an inexpensive upgrade that can noticeably improve comfort and reduce energy use year-round.
Ceiling Fan Rotation
Use the switch on your ceiling fan to change blade direction seasonally:
-
Summer: Run the fan counterclockwise to push air downward and create a cooling breeze.
-
Winter: Run the fan clockwise at a low speed to pull cool air up and gently push warm air along the ceiling outward into the room.
Heavy Insulated Curtains
Close heavy, insulated curtains at night to keep warm air inside and block drafts. Open them during the day to let in natural heat from the sun.
Door Draft Stoppers
Draft stoppers (or “draft busters”) block cold air from sneaking in under doors. They’re easy to place, inexpensive, and can make a noticeable difference in comfort — especially in older homes.
Pipe Wrap
Pipe wrap insulates hot water pipes so water stays hotter as it travels, saving on water heating costs. It’s especially useful on pipes along exterior walls to help protect them from freezing.
